The Club, in the person of the then President Captain David Smith RD RN, played a leading role in saving major artefacts when HMS Conway paid off in 1974. Foremost amongst these were the figurehead (which is at HMS Nelson, Portsmouth),  wheel, bell and model which are all now in the RN Museum at Portsmouth. The Club also safeguarded most of Conway’s silver cups and shields which are now in the Friends’ chapel at Birkenhead.

The Committee continues that early work today through its Archives Sub Committee. This was instrumental in arranging for the Merseyside Maritime Museum to hold, conserve and make available Conway’s document archive. A list of the documents they now hold is on the Relics & Artefacts page of the main web site.

Most important among these are the Cadet Registers recording the joining and leaving dates of every cadet, Cadet Records for each cadet recording his personal details and achievements under training, and many logbooks and punishment books.
