BRING BACK THOSE MEMORIES
The Conway Club Cruising Association Weekend Friday 15th – Sunday 17th September 2023
The Bull Hotel, Castle Street, Beaumaris, Anglesey: 01248 810329 email the hotel here: bullhotel
The Conway Club Cruising Association in conjunction with the HMS Conway Trust and the Menai Straits One Design Heritage organisation will hold a weekend, open to all members of the Conway Club, during which there will be limited opportunities for attendees to sail or possibly race the MSOD’s, of which Conway had five all of which are now in private ownership. Originally built in Beaumaris, through the efforts of the MSOD Heritage organisation and the membership of the MSOD owners club, all 17 have been recovered from all parts of the country and are now based back in Beaumaris where they will all be brought back to seaworthy condition partly through the efforts of a wooden boat builder whose apprenticeship is being partly sponsored by the HMS Conway Trust.
PROGRAMME
Friday Sept 15th
Arrive at Beaumaris and attend a welcome Drinks and Buffet supper at a cost of £35 with early drinks limited to beer and wine or soft drinks sponsored by the Cruising Association. Moorings for any visiting boats may be made available by the Harbour Master on request prior to arrival
Saturday Sept 16th
A unique opportunity to sail from Beaumaris Pier in one of the 10 or so seaworthy MSODs. Trips will be limited to between 2 and 4 guests at the owners’ discretion and numbers are therefore limited. Alternatively, visit the boatyards where the remainder of the fleet of 17 are currently stored awaiting to be or already being rebuilt. We may organise a trip to Llandudno for the ladies. In the afternoon there will be another unique chance for one person to join the crew of each of the MSODs entered into the regular series of Saturday races. There will also be an opportunity for those who are not invited to race the boats to follow the racing in a sturdy motor cruiser belonging to a member of the MSOD owners club. This vessel is fully equipped with heads and a bar for which there may be a small charge to be advised. In the evening there will be an informal three-course in the Bull Hotel priced £40 with a welcome drink again sponsored by the Cruising Association. Jackets and ties will be appreciated, gentlemen!
Sunday Sept 17th
Depart at your convenience after breakfast.
We have been able to secure a favourable room and breakfast rate at the Bull Hotel and ask that you book your own accommodation with them. The Hotel has twenty-five rooms on a first come, first served basis and when telephoning mention you are with the Conway Club Cruising Association. Room rates for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday including Breakfast depend on which room is chosen but are from £318 to £458 and you are advised to look at the hotel website for more details. Please note that there are only 25 rooms in total so an early booking is essential.
